During a concert, Nancy discovers that a few men are stealing an old woman?s purse. She runs to catch hold of them and somehow manages to get the purse back but without its contents. The owner of the purse is an old lady called Mrs Struthers.

Mrs Struthers lives with her granddaughter Rose. When Nancy returns the empty purse to her, she asks for something more from Nancy. She calls Nancy to her home and tells her about Rose?s parents. Rose?s mother, Enid, married a gypsy man without Mrs Struthers? consent. However, within a short period of time after their marriage, the man had abandoned both his wife and his daughter. Enid then came back to her mother?s house with her daughter. Before dying, Enid told her mother about a doll which she had left only for Rose and that there is some kind of a clue about the doll in the family album. Mrs Struthers gives Nancy the task of finding that doll and the gypsy man who vanished from Enid and Rose?s lives all of a sudden.
