For comic book fans in general and Dark Knight fans in particular, this book is a treat. Frank Miller’s writing and inking by David Mazzucchelli in 1986 created this masterpiece about the origin of Batman. Miller had been writing a lot about The Dark Knight and in this story he kept to the theme going into the back story of Batman and how he came to be. The book became a bestseller and is still in print. The book created a fresh vision of Batman.

Batman returns from his tours abroad learning martial arts. He is sucked into a world of crime upon his return. He is inspired to take up the Bat as his symbol against crime fighting when he sees a bat settle against a statue of his father on his estate. Frank Gordon is also on a transfer from Chi-cago. He is appalled by how bad the situation is in Gordon City. Most of the police force is corrupt and crime is rampant. Frank Gordon also vows to fight crime within and without the police force. Harvey Dent is an upright District Attorney. Batman first collaborates with him to bring the crimi-nals to book. This story details how Frank Gordon and Batman become close associates.
